Once Every 4 Years

On December 31st, every year, there is talk about what the new year will bring, what we will do differently in our lives, and what positive changes we will make. Yes, like everyone else, I also made my resolutions.  However, like most, many of those resolutions went by the wayside.  That is why, on this Leap Day, I think that it is the PERFECT opportunity to “leap” into those resolutions and tweak them or make new ones.

What does it mean to “leap”?

As a verb, leap is defined as

-to spring through the air from one point or position to another; jump: to leap over a ditch.*
-to move or act quickly or suddenly: to leap aside; She leaped at the opportunity.*
As a noun, leap is defined as:
-a sudden or abrupt transition: a successful leap from piano class to concert hall.*

As a family, we will be making the leap to a better organized home (stay tuned for tips in that area).
As a mother, I will be making leaps to increase my patience level and finish reading that darn Chronicles of Narnia series out loud to the boys.
As a teacher, I will be making leaps to continue on my journey of teaching my boys to the best of my ability and taking the time to recognize when we need breaks from “normal” schoolwork and perhaps need to spend time with our many board (educational) games.
As a wife, I will be leaping at opportunities to continue being my husband’s cheerleader, teammate, sounding board, and partner in all aspects.
As a husband/wife team, we will take the leap of paying off both vehicles over the next 12 months…WOOHOO!!!
As myself, I will be leaping at all opportunities that land in my lap:  being the newest member of the FitCity Moms blogging team, creating and sustaining my health counseling/fitness training/menu-planning/etc. business (STAY TUNED FOR ANNOUNCEMENTS IN THAT AREA!), spending more time reading/studying about my faith, and taking more moments for myself and realizing that by doing so I am creating a better wife and mother for my family.
What areas will you take a leap in, or what will you be leaping to?

Why Does FitCity Moms Need Me?

Everything about the human body fascinates me; from the way our brains react to stimuli, to the way our muscles have memory, to the ability for females to reproduce, to the food that nourishes us. I have to say, though, that my very favorite pieces to focus on are fitness and nutrition. I’ve even gone as far as becoming a Certified Holistic Health Counselor and a personal trainer/group fitness instructor. One may ask why, with my passion and education, I need to be a FitCity Mom.

First and foremost, my biggest problem that I face is time.  I am a home schooling mother to three super-active boys. Not only do we home-school, but the boys swim 6 days out of the week.  Between these two time consuming activities, I have pushed my fitness time to the back-burner. Being a FitCity Mom would force me to schedule fitness time so that the YMCA membership is not wasted!

Next on my list of reasons why FitCity Moms needs me on their team is my vast amount of knowledge in the area of nutrition/food prep/cooking.  Keeping my family healthy is something that I am extremely passionate about, and I have thoroughly educated myself on many different dietary theories in order to implement the ones that work best for us.  I am an advocate of “real food”.  This means that we don’t have a pantry full of processed junk (we do have some, but they don’t contain an ingredient list that is a mile-long and full of words that you can’t pronounce). Being a FitCity Mom would give me a platform to share my knowledge with others.

The final reason that FitCity Moms needs to add me to their team is simply because I have a goal to help others achieve optimal health.  If this is achieved by someone watching me struggle to regain my fitness and following along with me on her own fitness journey, or if it is simply due to recipes that I share which make a mother take stock of her own family’s health and skip that drive-thru in favor of a quick, easy, delicious homemade meal, then I feel like I will have made a positive difference.

I believe that I would be a tremendous asset at FitCity, and I would be proud to call FitCity Moms my fitness and nutrition “home”.
